When you're getting started in affiliate marketing, you may be intimidated by all the opportunities available to you. But if you're looking to start a lucrative home based business minus the phone calls, home meetings and product inventories that most MLM and Network Marketing programs require, affiliate marketing is one of the quickest ways to make money online.
Affiliate marketers get paid to sell things for others. If you don't have a product of your own to sell, this is a great alternative. Two of the most popular affiliate programs are Amazon and ClickBank. Both provide an opportunity to market a variety of products to your followers. Most of the affiliate programs provide banners, links and testimonials for you to use as well as a back-end that keeps track of your sales.
While many bloggers shy away from affiliate marketing assuming it will somehow cheapen their image or clutter up their websites or blogs, others are using it religiously and have added significant revenue streams to their online ventures.
The quickest way to get started in Affiliate Marketing is to analyze the programs you're currently using yourself. For example, I'm an avid reader and frequently review or recommend books on my blog. Amazon offers an affiliate program that allows me to paste a code into that page that allows my readers to go directly to my Amazon affiliate site to purchase the book!
Although most affiliate programs are free to join, there are some that will charge a fee. Make sure you read the terms and conditions when selecting your affiliate marketing program. Others have built in specials for their affiliates. For example, I do a lot of online marketing and therefore purchase advertising. One of my best programs allows me to purchase my ads from my affiliate link, giving me a $100 discount over the regular price I paid as a non- affiliate.
Finally, when considering an affiliate program, you need to find out what the commission percentage is and how you get paid. One of the biggest problems with affiliate programs is that they only release payments once a month or after your account has reached a specific threshold. Commission percentages will vary widely, so make sure you've got a good mix of lower commission products that are probably easier to sell as well as higher end goods that may be a little more difficult.
You need to be just as picky about the display of your affiliate links and ads as you are about selecting your affiliate programs. Cluttering up your blog or website with a ton of flashing banners and ads is not a good idea. You want to present your affiliate links inauspiciously, almost as an afterthought to your visitors. Add one or two of the best programs to your website, but incorporate any others into your blog posts or website content. Don't forget to recommend the products to your mailing list as well.
Promoted well, affiliate programs are an excellent source of online income!
